Krakow is a good base for visiting Auschwitz. It takes only 1,5 hours to get there by car and our driver will pick you up from your hotel.
Auschwitz is a German name for Oswiecim. In 1940 the Nazis established concentration camp there. Soon it became the death factory in which between 1,3 and 1,5 million people lost their lives. 90% of them were Jews. Before the Soviet soldiers liberated the camp, the Nazis tried to hide all traces of mass murder. They attempted to blow up the crematories and gas chambers but they did not have enough time to destroy everything.
During your 3,5 h sightseeing you will visit Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II Birkenau (Brzezinka). You will also watch a short documentary film about the liberation of the camp. Auschwitz is a place which every human being should see.
