Lambinowice – Lambinovice (German: Lamsdorf) is a small village in south-western Poland. In the 19th century the Prussian military range was established here. During the Prussian-French war it was transformed into camp of detention, known thereafter as Camp Lamsdorf. The camp was reactivated during the World Wars. In the time of World War II Lamsdorf was one of the biggest Nazi prisoner-of-war camps in Europe. At that time, around 300 thousand soldiers, belonging to nearly 50 nations, passed through the gates of the camp, many of whom died. After the end of the World War II the camp continued to operate and this time served as a detention and resettlement camp for German civilians. Nowadays, the Site of National Remembrance at Lambinowice, which is a unique center on the European scale, preserves the memory of all the victims of the prisoner-of-war camp. You will visit the Central Museum of Prisoners of War on the site of the infamous Stalag VIII-B camp where prisoners were interned in tragic conditions. The guide will also take you to other significant places in the surroundings, such as remnants of barracks and camp buildings, cemeteries, memorials.
